Abstract

The most promising method of extending rail life cycle is grinding by rail grinding trains. Mechanical treatment rolling surface of head rail remove formed defects and prevent development of acute defects which must removal rails from operation. Rail grinding technology currently is used requires organization of train traffic technological gaps due to very low efficiency of rail grinding machines. It is to lead to significant costs for carriers due to traffic restrictions of railway. Improving efficiency of rail grinding trains is actual and unsolved problem today. It is proposed to increase working speed of the rail grinding train by increasing rotation speed of the grinding wheels and setting angle of attack. The results of high-speed rail grinding technology pilot tests are presented. The results confirmed possibility of increasing 2 times of speed of rail grinding train (up to 15 km /h) due to increasing rotation speed of grinding wheels to 5000 rpm and setting angle of attack to 0.35°, without reducing removal of rail head metal. At the same time, surface roughness increased by 50% but remained in acceptable range of values in new technology.
